The Tousled Tresses!!

A very wise man once said that “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… rather it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”  And that people is my favourite quote in life. Every now and then life gives you so many ups and down that sometimes all you can do is just look at the silver lining and then go about chasing your dreams. Wow. This actually seems a sound advice.

Relax. This is not a new direction of the blog. So, let’s just get back to the issue at hand. I am very sure that by now you must have noticed that the rainy season has officially begun.  The rain, as pretty as it is, does not take too kindly to the fashion world. In fact, sometimes it feels like it’s going out of its way to make us look defunct.

Now I don’t know about you, but my biggest problem in this season is my hair. No matter what I do, the increased humidity gives it a mind of its own and that too a highly deviant one.  I may wash it every day or maybe use a dry shampoo or even put it on fire…. It’s gonna do what it wants.

And that’s precisely why I am picking up the topic of the latest hair trends. All of us have bad hair days, some of us choose to put a bandana over it and some of us just go along. And we may be able to redeem ourselves on other days; but our poor celebrities can’t really afford to do so.

They need to be on the top of their game 24*7 or just die trying. And so they have very slyly devised trends which do give them a bit of breathing space. And kudos to them, we can just take a leaf out of their hair books and play around with it. and play we must because the newest trends in braids are just breath-taking.

On a bad hair day (like the one I am having today) simply sweep all your hair to one side and just head along with a messy braid, now the kind of braid you want to do is on you. You can choose from a fish tail braid or a Heidi braid, or a four/ five strand braid or a modern milkmaid braid or even go for an elegant yet very chic braid-bun hair-do. The kind of hairstyle you want to go adorn would depend on how crisp your attire is.

As there are a number of braid styles out there, choosing the one which goes well is a challenge as you would be tempted to try the most wackiest one. But just like wearing an LBD to an office meeting is a crime so is wearing the wrong braid. I suggest go with a messy braid when you are out shopping or even for a date, pair is with some tank top and cut-up jeans for the former and some nice pair of heels and a modern top for the latter to give yourself that Avant-grade chic look. But when it comes to work…. Ladies, classic and clean is the only way to go. For office, team up you crisp blouse and that pencil trouser with a classic side swept braid or a braid bun or if you are too much in love with a fish tail braid then make it as neat as you possibly can.

The Bare-Dare!!

Hello. How have you gorgeous people been? As promised earlier, I am back and this time with some new ideas. Now I know that my blog has always been mostly about trendy clothes but I am trying to expand it to other areas too. Nothing too hi-fi but I am trying something new with today’s post, so here it goes one little step at a time.

So what’s new about today……. Make-up.

Yes, even the most gorgeous of attires can be flat-lined with one wrong stroke of the blush brush or with that wing tipped mascara. So, as I said last week the newest fashion seems to be everything shiny and metallic and bright and if I dare say, completely in your eyes. Now, while that is a good trend in attires, in make up it’s completely opposite unless you wanna look like a walking headlight.

As I was growing up, my sister taught me; after a disastrous and secretive (I might add) raid of her make-up box which ended up with her looking a younger version of Cruella de ville and me as a cute little punk child; to always put on the make-up to make it look like you are wearing no makeup at all. Crazy, right; but that’s exactly what the make-up’s for…… to enhance your inner beauty and cover up those tiny little flaws, if any.

So how do we get it right without getting it wrong? Concentrate either on your eyes or your lips. The trend this season seems to be, to just get that beautiful glow. So just focus on that. The first step and perhaps the most vital step is choosing a compact powder. This needs to be done very carefully and after you have looked at all the options. Why so much of hard work, you ask? Because it is going to be the base of your make-up and must be absolutely identical to your skin tone so as to just give it that simple sheen or that perfect radiance. Once you are done choosing  a compact move onto the blush. Now I am completely in love with Guerlian Meteorites Pearls, which gives me that perfect blend of rosiness in my skin tone though a little pricey but its worth the money and lasts a long long time.

Since it’s summer that make-up cake would do just the opposite of making you look cool and give you that flushed appearance, so you need to choose your products extra carefully. However, if you would rather choose to have a foundation base then that would work wonderfully too. Either way before you put on that first layer; you do need to use a concealer to hide those tiny little blemishes I was talking about above.

After you are done with the basic now is the time to give yourself that diva look. Now you can either choose to go big on eyes, which is my fav, or you can decide to colour your pout, which again is a preference matter.

If you do choose eyes, you have a loooot of choices in matters of eye pencils, eye shadows, mascaras and liners. Again choose the product with which you are most comfortable. In fact, Lakme has just launched a whole new series of eye pencils and they work wonders on the Indian skin tone, specially the Smoky Grey. It gives the eye a very misty look. So now that you have chosen to do a smoky look do you really need to spend so much of mullah on infinite number of products…. Well, it’s your choice but I simply put a coat of lip balm on my eyelids before I start the make-up. It hydrates them and makes it easier for me to blend a lot of colour on them without any of it looking patchy or standing out.

Once you are done with the eyes move over to the lips. One tip, as it works wonders for me, put a coat of not coloured or light colour lip balm on your lips too before you start with your base. It hydrates them and also, helps the lipstick have that glossy effect even without one. In fact, you can bring subtle changes to your nude or light colour lipstick by mixing it with darker shades of lip balm. It saves me a bundle. Now, you can choose from a lot of brands and infinite number of lip shades out there but my favorite is Dior Sillage. But don’t just take my word for it. Go find your pout of luck and don’t forget to tell me too

First of all, I would like to really really apologize for my lack of presence for a long time. I know it’s no excuse at all but I had been on a creative lockdown for quite some time. But I am back and this time with a bundle of new ideas so I do hope that you guys haven’t abandoned me. and if you are really angry I promise to win you back one post at a time.

So, The Oscars came and went with all the stars glittering on the red carpet and how so? Not only did the stars heightened up the glamour quotient of the event they forced everyone to shield their eyes with their extremely sparkling outfits and this time I do mean it literally. As I sat and watched the red carpet on my tele, I wondered if I should just go and grab a pair of sunglasses or stay put and sit glued to it. But it did make me think that maybe that’s what we need to scorch the sun this summer.

After all, who’s gotten anywhere by playing it safe. And the celebs definitely walk on a tight rope. You get it right you are a star, you get it wrong and they let wolves loose. So let’s see who got it right this time. While others squirm and twist to get that perfect balance of glamour and sexual magnetism, Angelina Jolie just simply glides into a dress, throws back her hair and says ‘So, what are you wearing?’. And that’s exactly what she did this time too AND might i add, looked ravishing in the beautiful floor length silver gown combined with the best accessory ever….. BRAD PITT, whom, I must say, looked as handsome and yummy as always.

Anyways, moving our attention away from the gorgeous and scrumptious Brad (Wow, this is actually tougher than I thought) let’s discuss the trend at hand. Now, while the celebs may be able to pull off the full blown metallic gowns, the ever so high slits and tops cut down till the navel; us mortal souls still need to be a little bit closer to earth.  So how can we incorporate it in our attires without needing to throw away our entire wardrobe?

The best way would be to just simply glide into a comfy pastel dress or gown and just add a bit of touch of panache by either wearing a head ornament like our very own sassy Deepika Padukone or pairing it with a beautiful metallic cuff or a statement ring or the newest trend a statement ear-cuff and transform yourself into a diva. I would recommend brands like ‘Bansri’ and ‘Amarapali’ which even though being quite exquisite are still quite affordable. Or you could simply choose to buy a metallic embellished dress but do make sure to choose the right colors i.e. anything matte or pastels. My vote would go to nude or beige because I am absolutely in love with the color but you could choose from a wide variety of black, grey, beige, silver, even gold or if want to just throw caution to the wind, even a bold color like royal blue would do the trick.

So, let's step out with our fashion foot forward this summer. That’s all I have for now, hopefully it makes up for all the lost time between us and hopefully I will be struck with a nonstop array of creative arrows and I will be at you service soon.

Wedding S-Attires!!!!

Hello lovely ladies, sorry for the huge gap since I posted. But I am back and hopefully you will all forgive and forget when you read this post. Well, as I have been travelling for past few days and, in fact, just back from my favourite fashion capital of the world…….. Yes, none other than NEW YORK, I am bursting with new ideas. So, what are we waiting for; Xmas…………..let’s get started.

The holiday season is upon us all over the world, Diwali Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, you name it. Since Diwali is already over the wedding season has officially been kick-started in India. And we all know how very important it is to be impeccably dressed to every one of these events, be it your sister’s, your friend’s or even an acquaintance’s.

Indian weddings have never lacked in terms of bling and they definitely seem to believe in the phrase: The bigger the better!!!!!! But that doesn’t necessarily mean that we need to walk in looking like a spotlight; we actually need the spotlight to follow us where we go. Trust me there’s a way…… there’s always a way!!!!!!

This season dull shades seem to be sparkling the most. And while some divas are just happy wearing the base colour all over, my advice would be to combine the base colour with some bold ones. Whites, beige and earth tones may be the hottest thing these days but if you do have qualms about these colours in the festivities, then you may just adorn some matte bold colours like olive greens or royal blues or rust reds.

And while saris and lehengas are an all-time favourite, this season floor length anaarkalli seem to be the darling of divas. One can dabble in all the shades they wish upon. Another beloved this season seems to be the silk saris, while they may be a bit of high maintenance, but once draped they tend to look exotic on all kind of figures be it a bit curvy or voluptuous or lean and slim.

Short-Listed!!!

 

Even though the monsoons are here the weather still seems to be trickier than ever these days; just when you are expecting it to rain the sun would come out to play peek-a-boo with us and when we expect it to be sunny side up it gets greyer by the second. Well, the weather may be whatever it is; we still need to be our very own rainbow in dark skies. However, it does pose a challenging state of affairs when we don’t know what Mother Nature’s gonna throw at us.

So, as I sat down in my balcony listening to the sweet pitter-patter of the rain everywhere, it struck me, what we need is something that not only screams Diva but is also comfy beyond belief. Simplest thing that you could imagine is the answer to that, something that everyone owns…… SHORTS.

Yes, the answer to our monsoon woes is that simple. They are quite simply chic and glamorous and I think, all of us have always had a soft spot for them in our hearts. However, as simple as they may feel to carry off they do need to be accessorized just impeccably.

For a day in the sun and rain you can choose an unpretentious denim shorts teamed up with a tank top or even a boyfriend shirt and some sleek flats in neon shade. For a classier occasion just opt for a silk or sequined shorts which can be adorned with a tube top or a chiffon shirt or even a crisp white office shirt and your favourite pair of heels.

In fact, this season’s pick is the SHORT-SUIT which is exactly what it sounds like; a suit which comprises of shorts teamed up with a blazer. If you feel that it is little daring for you, just pick out a little courage from the stylish Amanda Seyfried who looks divine in her-short-suit. And if you somehow feel that it’s a little young for you then just take a look at our ‘pretty woman’ Julia Roberts’ who looks as sophisticated and perfect in hers.

So, let’s all make our style this season a little short-wired and as I have emphasised time and again, be your very own fashionable self. CIAO for now.

The Hat -Trick!!!

The monsoons are here and while it might not be raining cats and dogs out there, it’s just perfect to cuddle up on your couch with a glass of wine (chocolate milk or whatever is your guilty pleasure) and an old romantic movie on the TV. My favourite is My Fair Lady with a glass of red wine and my quilt by my side. And of course I practise what I preach, in fact, I practised last night and boy oh boy, was it fun.

So there I was, sitting in front of my TV and watching My Fair Lady with apt attention, and suddenly it dawned on me that we girls always dreamt about our prince charming to be perfect, which would mean that they were to be perfect gentlemen down to their attire. I am sure none of us dreamt that our prince charming would come to whisk us away in shorts or slippers.

But gone are those days, hey don’t get me wrong I am not against comfortable clothing nor do I want a Lancelot by my side, however you have to admit that the charm eluded by a sharply dressed man……... So, let’s just bygone be bygones and move on. Fortunately, the cherry on top is back.

Yes, I do mean the HATS and the best part is it can be easily incorporated in your casual or semi casual or formal attires. And I mean it you can just easily pick out your favourite jeans and t-shirt and team it up with a fedora or a trilby as you would blindly team it up with your suits.  And a newsboy cap or a flat hat is second to none, when teamed up with nice trousers and sweatshirts or sweaters. While solid colours are always a favourite with everyone, even stylish celebs, checked seem to be quite in vogue. However, if you are not a huge fan of checks but still want to break away from traditional yet classic, try picking out one in solid bright colours like purple or red or any colour  your heart tickles. So what are you guys waiting for go out and be the Prince of your story!!!!!!

Wisps of a Fairy!!!

Trust me, I thought and thought and then I thought some more butI just couldn’t stick to one dialect, as this trend seems to be an amalgamation of all….. Greek……. Roman……. Indian…… all in all, totally Bohemian.

When I was a little girl I always pretended while playing that I was a fairy or an angel; I would borrow my mom’s chiffon sari, drape it around ineptly and then just twirl myself silly. That is one of the fondest memories of my childhood; then as I stepped into my teenage years our lovely yesteryear actresses in those amazing chiffon sari were just a muse of poise and grace. And now as I am in my twenties the allure for chiffon saries haven’t perished, in fact if anything, it has augmented.

Although, this trend is not based solely on chiffons, but it does bring back all of those memories and the fluid silhouette seem to have grasped the heart of the whole fashion world which, I think, is rather fitting [pun intended]. Apart from being divinely comfy, they are absolutely drop-dead glamorous too. You can easily pick out a leaf from Diya Mirza’s wardrobe in IIFA as she looks like a goddess with almost minimal effort or from the newly arrived on the style wagon Chitrangana Sen.

While the seasons may come and go this trend seems to be eternal, at least for the Indian audience. While the heat and humidity is always a worthy foe of fashion, this trend seems an invincible answer which is rather easy to adorn. You may simply choose a full-flair skirt, a dress or even a full flair pants. However, one needs to cherry-pick the ensemble as it may easily turn from diva to bagwoman. You must always remember to team the skirt and the pants with a body hugging shirt but a dress can be slack.

So, just go out there pick your fashion and stay beautiful. Ciao for now.

Flower Power!!

Yes, I do know how this sound: ‘like a cliché’ but hey why mess with the classics. And NO, I am not going back to the era of seventies. I am just exclaiming about the on-going and ever blooming (no pun intended) trend in the fashion industry. And although, we girls may negate it in front of our male counterparts but flowers always hold a special place in the heart of every women.

As I have already pointed it out in a lot of my posts, I am a huge believer of women empowerment. And empowered we have become, indeed! But as they say that ‘everything comes with a price’ and the price we paid here was giving up our femininity in our workplaces.  Truth be told the fierceness required to endure in today’s competitive work culture is like wading through quicksand, the more you try to subdue it the more you get entangled and the fiercer you become. It’s like a vicious circle or a catch 22.

Amid all this the fashion world brings onward the retort to all these woes. They have hand-picked the most delicate age-old trend and entwined it into something anew. And, this IIFA red carpet has already paved for the hottest trend amongst us, which to be fair had already been gaining popularity for a while now. Yes, you guessed it right: FLOWERS.

It’s in everything: flower prints, laced flowers, flowers in hair, flowers in rings, and flowers as accessories, too. You just need to pick your panache. While keeping it unpretentious you may just choose to adorn them in your hair with bandeaux (hairbands) or hairclips in the form of florets. But for a more dazzling effect, try something in floral prints or lace which will not only give you that delicate guise but is quite sensible too in this scorching temperature.

One can choose floral jumpsuits or a pretty skirt trimmed with a little lace or even a dress with flower motif or if you want to go a little traditional then take cue from none other than ‘Bipasha Basu’ and team up your favourite sari with a brand new blouse with floral embroidery.

So, ladies what are you waiting for, lets bloom and rule this season!!!

Shine Shrine!!!!

Hi gals!!!! Today, as I sat in front of my telly to catch up on my daily bout of catastrophe a.k.a ‘THE NEWS’’ (and boy oh boy!! Did it live up to its reputation) the thing that held my eye was the blistering temperature rises all over the country. And then as if the news wasn’t ingenuous enough for me, I had to test the waters for myself.

Oh the heat!!!!! The sun was scorching over my head immensely and it felt as if it was bent on taking vengeance for something and trust me, I would have grovelled sorry at every step but I just didn’t know what to ask sorry for. So, by the looks of it, sun has absolutely no intention of plummeting down.

Anywhoo, as I said in my last post, no matter what the weather; we girls need to have a sizzle of our own. And that just got me thinking……… easier said than done; so, let’s just see what we can do about it? Weeeeelllllll, let me see what could be the answer to it……just three sweet little glam words: BLING, BLING, BLING!!!!!!!

Yes, sweethearts just go metal crazy. Accessorize, Embellish and Adorn it in your wardrobe in your own way, as I keep saying. Although all the above words mean the same but hey, you gotta incorporate it in and the best thing is you can easily pair it up with the colour and fabric of your choice. And also team it up with the colour of the season i.e. whites and nudes.

It can be in really trivial techniques like adding some nice shiny chains to your favourite jeans or even gluing up little bits of sequins to those old pair of high heels which you don’t want to toss away. However, for something more audacious one may choose to wear a metallic skirt or a short or even a complete dress. The short dresses are better suited to this season but once again you must choose your own fashion.

Snowflakes!!!!

Ever seen the first snow? If you have then you know what I am talking about when I say: pure as heaven and exotic like hell. They say that each snowflake is unique; each one different from another but equally striking. Isn’t it brilliant how nature works? Anyways, enough about nature let’s talk about some man made delicacy.

While the summer scorches over our beautiful pretty heads it’s our job to, well, be breezy because no matter how sizzling the weather is we need to have a little sizzle of our own.  So this season don’t even reach for your blacks and blues and just be clad in whites and beige and be your very own snowflake.

Not only does the colour counter the heat of the season, but I believe it even reflects a pure vibe all through the body and mind. And why not, since the dawn of age ‘White’ has been a beacon for purity, serenity, demureness and peace.

So, this season just cherry-pick whites in your wardrobe valiantly. There are a loooooooooooot of possibilities thru which you may integrate white in your attire, the safest fashion would be to combine it with black but if you are anything like me you need your daily dose of colour, in that case, just combine it with metallic to bring some bling on. Or for that classic chic look you can combine it with the skinny jeans in colour of your choice and for a little more daring look you can shred them in interesting places, also, of your choice. 

Apart from the usual westerns, white is also a huge knockout in the classic Indian attires like saris, lehengas and suits of course. And the best of all is that you can effortlessly accessorize it with gold or silver and combine it with any N number of colours and prints.

Well, all we girls may not be snowflakes but we are equally exquisite. So, just go bananas and find your own unique way to be one. Ciao!!!

SUIT-UP!!!

Hi guys…. Hope you all had a wonderful start of an amazing new year. Well, now that the festive and holiday season is over (blah) and we all are back to work; I know just the thing to make it fun. I think that deep down all us girls at some point of our lives have been involved in a debate, discussion or even a fight about “the Better Gender”. Haven’t we all put up posters, formed groups and heard a lot of speeches about ‘Girl Power!’  Well, this season don’t just say it; WEAR IT and show’em who’s the boss. And as a very popular phrase this decade, just SUIT UP {wink}.

The trend of this type of dressing or rather cross dressing as they put it, sometimes, is called Androgyny {which is so much more deep a term in non-fashion ways}. Even today I have heard so many women say that they have had to carve out their places in their respective workplaces. Now imagine this feeling 30-40 years back, when the world literally belonged to the men. When the first batch of women, who realized they can do a better job, had to actually dress up as men to be considered worthy. And hence came the trend of ANDROGYNY.

Well, we are far from the origin now and thankfully, we can be better dressed and be more womanly in our workplace than our pioneering gender of the yesteryear. This season you can carve out your own personality by donning blazers, suits and trousers in your own style. While some might stick with the classics like blacks and grey, others can be a little more casual and go with colours like red, blues or even white. Also, there seems to be a lot of options in the cuts too; while my favourite is skinny fit or pencil fit, the flared pants seem to be second to none. And for the casual ‘devil may care’  look just go with some t-shirt and jeans embellished with a blazer.

So what are guys waiting for, go out and shop. And if they say your credit card’s on fire just say- Hey! The things I do for my job.

The Devil's Soul!!!!

Since the dawn of age, women and the colour red share an almost supernatural bond. We all know about the damned red apple which Eve wasn’t supposed to eat. Since then this colour has been shrouded with mystic, covetousness and glamour. Designers all over the world have been inspired by the colour and we, Indian girls, share an even more special bond with it; it has always been associated to our marriages and all of our festivals.

This season the whole fashion world seems to be in awe of this mesmerising colour, nationally and internationally. While internationally designers have been infusing red in flowing gowns, back at home our designers have been dabbing the colour on our very traditional attires.

However, as there has been a constant effort by the designers to get Indian attires to that international place, one can always team up this colour with a bit of high end fashion. For example, one can chose a corset blouse over a plane red sari which could do wonders even with minimalistic effort or choose a red dress which could always be teamed up with a different coloured legging to give it that Indo-western look. I recently attended a family wedding where I teamed up my royal blue ‘lehnga’ with a nice long red jacket which of course completely obliterated the need of a ‘chunni’ and was able to net in a few compliments.

So all you people out there, in the spirit of this red season lets show Christmas a good time and go a little mad with ingenuity.

Back to Black!!!

BLACK BLACK BLACK! No matter how many times you wear this colour it’s one of those things which can never go old in the fashion world. Be it our favourite LBD, our favourite sari or even the most beloved pair of heels; it has to be black. Seasons come and go but the colour is eternal.

Black has always held a very special place in the hearts of everyone be it a guy or girl; designer or even a layman with absolute no sense of fashion. And rightly so, as it can be mixed and engulfed with all other colour ranges and still emerges to be unique every single time. No matter what accessory you want to adorn with your black ensemble it always brings out your own unique style.

However, even though the colour comes back every season it always brings with it a new fashion avenue. This season seems to combine two major schools of fashion. It seems to bring us an amalgamation between ‘Xena the warrior princess’  and ‘Mrs. Morticia Addams’ (remember Addams family!). As a result the dresses this season are perfect to be adorned on fashion battlegrounds.

While us, earthly creature, might not have pockets deep as either one of the inspirations mentioned above, we could still get our wardrobe n’sync with today’s fashion by some simple ideas plucked from them.  With any of our LBD’s either short or long wear chunky jewellery which would not be considered as traditional any means. And for some our more fearless creatures out there just be a little creative with a pair of scissors or a tube of glitter and VOILA…..

Everyday Exotic: The Jumpsuit

If you are anything like me you would also have a lot of woes packing for a trip where you know you need to be casual yet glamorous. I end up taking half of my wardrobe with me but use literally only fourth of it. Then I realize all that huffing and puffing I did was in vain.

          At times like these I keep thinking why I couldn’t just have that one single ensemble which would solve all of my sartorial woes. Thankfully, now I have. Behold the mighty jumpsuit!

This decade old fashion trend has made a comeback and that too with a bang with capital ‘B’. Do you all remember our yester year actresses, rock stars fashion icons and even our moms and aunts in old photographs in jumpsuits quite similar to the ones we see now?

Well even if you don’t, you will certainly not be able to forget these ones anytime soon. These come in ‘n’ number of options where you can go crazy experimenting. Trust me I couldn’t decide whether I should go for off-shoulder or full-sleeved, halter or strapless, full flared or skinny, I felt like I was a kid in a candy store.

However, no matter what you chose the best part of a jumpsuit is that you can get them in any kind of fabric you want: Cotton, floral or printed is perfect for the Daytime just simply adorn accessories according to your occasion, go chunky for street walking or a little more sophisticated for a luncheon; sequenced or silk for a night time dinner and dancing is perfect, just go with some delicate jewellery and high heels topped with your favourite clutch.

Well I think on this note I should take your leave; so all you guys out there can go ga-ga over thinking how to create your perfect look.

I always believe that the best kind of fashion is something which gives vintage a new edge. And this new trend definitely proves my belief. If you keep up with the recent events you then you might have guessed it by now!!!! Yes, I am definitely talking about LACE.  All of us know that the revival of this new trend can be ensued to our newest and beloved Princess Kate, who was a vision in white at her wedding.

The sentence fit for a queen can be aptly used for lace and for centuries it was as it had been for the exclusive use of the richest only. And why not, it has always had an elusive eminence, an arcane allure to it no matter what the decade or the trend. Nothing less could have survived the harsh climate of centuries of vicissitudes of the fashion world.

However, a lot has changed in the ways of queens, princesses and even their subjects and aptly so, has the ways of the fashion. But even today the royalty and celebrities alike have a preference to this age old form of art.

One can easily slid into its delicate form in any number of ways. You can just put on a lace jacket over an evening dress or go for lace legging over a formal top. You can even have simple lace blouse or a dress with some lace environs. But keep in mind this fabric needs to be put on with the utmost caution. There are certain rules to be attached to it as it portrays the elusive side of fashion.

Gone are the days when women were considered as weak or dependent; the women today are fierce and independent in every way, Lace fetches much needed demureness to today’s fashion and even to the women who wears it.

Birds of Paradise

Recently as I watched ‘The Oscar’s’ I realized what an eye-opener they were.  As, we all know that ‘Black Swan’ not only did sweep the awards away but rather invigorated an old classical fad of, well, FEATHERS.  Yes-Yes, I am not kidding, I mean dress, shoes, earrings, hair accessories… basically, the complete works. You can Donne them in your very own way. I am not even going to say that people with a weak heart can even attempt at them; they just scream ‘DIVA’.

True, that they are to be wild and just ‘vivacious’ but too much of anything can be calamitous. And too much of it may just look that we are trying too hard. Now we don’t want that, do we? You can incorporate feathers in your daily ensemble in quite unpretentious ways. Just get a big earring to carry off with your Denims or just get a little braiding in your hair done which could look very rock star.

Or if you feel that you are not the rock star types then just Donne a hat for that vintage look, I mean, if the new Princess  can attire it how much more vintage do you want. Also, summer sun makes these accessories very easy on eyes. Nonetheless, the dress incorporated around these vivacious feathers makes you feel as if you can do no wrong.

This fad has also brought to light some of our very own Indian talent to the International red carpet which just wants me scream…… YEAH!!!!!!!!! P.S. I am talking about Falguni and Shane Peacock. Seriously, their designs are the talk of the town. You can see anyone who is anyone wanting a piece of them right now.

Getting back to feathers, personally, I feel Jlo carries them off the best, but Fergie comes second to none. But don’t get carried away by these glam goddesses, you decide the look which makes you look avant-garde. After all, what is fashion if not Risk.

Dare-Denims

Seeing how denim is like a second skin to all of us it’s just very hard to imagine that at one point in our history it was restricted to waist overalls for workmen and sea-men. Then came the era of Levi Strauss which changed the face of denim and made it to our very favourite ‘Jeans’. By 1950s, the big shots like Elvis Presley and Marlin Brando made jeans an insignia of rock and roll and pop culture.

          As the decades passed on, denim became a wave that swept away the whole world and became associated with the most sought after names in the fashion world. Denim became one of the most experimented fabrics which had a new look almost every day and the best thing about it was that everyone could add a little touch of their own individuality to it, whether it was chains for biker gangs or flower power icons or even just your own name written in ink.

Well, let’s just get back to our own time, you see since the start denim has been for the daring, constantly experimented upon, so why should it be any different this season. This season colours seem to be the ‘in thing’ and so the denims has been coloured. Go beyond the basic blues and blacks in your denims and choose the most bizarre colours of your choice.

True that the favourites have been red and royal blue but you may gallop in any colour you wish. Just throw on basic colour with the denim and be in style. And what I said earlier was true you can individualize it according to your own taste, accessorize it or just plain rip it up in places.  You may have a small flair at the end or an ankle length skinny look or even a knee length paired with a breezy floral top.

The best thing is, there’s no set way to wear the fabric; one may want to use it as pants but a jacket or a dress in the fabric is equally chic. A combination of the age old denim shorts and a denim jacket is an ensemble which remains in fashion no matter what any season says.

So be a dare-denim this season and just let you inner fashionista have some fun experimenting!!!!!

SUMMER SUNSHINE

As you all know this summer was desperate to greet us all sooner than we had expected. Now if you are anything like me you are not big fans about summer and we all know that the summer in India is absolutely a killer for skin, looks or even fashion for that matter.  But hey no matter what the climate gives us, a gal’s gotta look her best right. Have no worry we can all be fashionable and yet be breezy.

            Well, as we know black is always a favourite but summer is not the time to go against the sun so, we all get to gallop in different shades of sun. The most favourite shades this season are different levels of nudes (I don’t mean the Birthday Suit), browns and rose. And our favourite fabrics have to be chiffon and georgettes and cotton, ofcourse.

While chics can rock floral cotton prints or the famous American stripes, which are back courtesy the new dive towards the past in our movies, soaps etc, in those awesome short dresses filled with ruffles and pleats. Or if you have those perfect legs you may dazzle the crowd with denim shorts which every girl has, with loose checked or striped shirts with folded sleeves for that devil may care look.

However, the main thing to remember is that let yourself be a part of the nature and be filled with the colours of sun. 

Our Favorite- LBD

A few days back I was alternating between television channels and  watching Alice in Wonderland (the new one) and fashion tv at the same time and suddenly I sat thinking to myself how different is she from an average girl today? Well, not so much is the answer, are you wondering how or thinking that is ‘Ashima Wandering’ crazy. Well, neither am I crazy nor day dreaming rather the fashionista in me started thinking aloud comparing myself to Alice and the fashion world being the wonderland. So as I was saying, how often has it happened to you that you open up a fashion channel and wonder  how can I wear this,  it is bizarre.  In that way aren’t we all ‘Alice’s here…I mean just when we figure out which side is up and which side is down along comes a potion to tilt everything. 

Well, not to worry, today I am going to give you a couple of simple methods to be in fashion for the whole winter. First things first, whoever has been going around saying that any color is replacing black should be banished. Ladies I have news for you no color can replace black, it never has and isn’t going to any time soon. I mean it makes you look thinner and brings out all kinds of complexion, looks good in all kinds of attire be it Indian or Westerns.

The best thing about the color is that it can be worn in formals or in a cute little cocktail dress, and besides you may bring a little vivaciousness to it by just accessorizing it with different colors be it red, royal blue, purple or a nice bottle green. And if you want more you may choose a dress with a colored hem or cuff or as they say it just ‘bling’ it on with a bit of sequences and sparkle stones thrown here and there. So what say O fashion conscious women, those in support say I, those against BRING IT ON!!!

something about me!!!!!!

seeing as this is my first blog ever i thought why not start with saying something about me...... i am 25 years old haven't accomplished much but want to..... so many things each day comes with a new plan....... one day i want to be a designer next a chef....GOD I feel as if i can't do anything in my life and then i feel the whole world is my canvass i can paint it the way i want to............  Each time i  convince myself that i meant to be just ordinary something inside me rebels and starts dreaming again........ i don't really know if anyone outside feels the same way..... but if u do and u understand wat i go through everyday........... tell me!!!!!!!!!! Quite frankly i haven't met anyone like me in my 25 years of age......... well thats the only thing that i can say abhi........... as soon as i think of soemthing new i will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
